Today was busy. Dropped Bob of at airport at 6, went to Corn Palace for some pictures by 7. Stopped a few hours later at an incredible rest stop that overlooked the Missouri River. The rest stop had a lot of interesting info about Lewis and Clark - something I will teach next year. I tried to contain the teacher in me. We made it to the Badlands much earlier than expected. I cannot describe how beautiful this place is. While I am excited about the pictures we took, I fear that they will pale in comparison to the real thing. We drove a 20 or so mile loop around some of the coolest features of the park - the wall.
That Route 240 led us into probably the largest tourist trap in SD -- Wall Drug. We of course stopped. There were signs leading us to this place starting in MN! Kind of reminds me of the South of the Border signs you see on the way to FL. Believe it ot not we saw a man (who we found out was from Montreal) wearing a SPLUNK t-shirt at Badlands. Maybe that was Bob's way of being with us. :)
We ended our drive in Rapid City - we drove clear across SD. The girls are excited about the hotel -- it has a waterpark.
We had a "real" dinner tonight...Outback. Haha. We have been eating tuna fish, PBJ, chili and baked ziti so it was a nice change of pace.
We are retiring early tonight. 3 exhausted females never make a good combination. We are now in Mountain Time - that's 2 hours before NY so we even squeezed another hour into an already busy day. We will sleep a little later tomorrow (today I was up at 4:30) - 7 or 8 or so then we will most likely be off to see Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Needles HWY.
I'll post some pictures of the things we saw. Hope all is well back in NY.
